How we work

How we walk into a wind farm we do not know yet

Every site has its own technology, age, access and history. The work changes on each one; the method does not.

Survey

We walk the site turbine by turbine: access roads and crane pads, external condition of tower and blades, alarm history, maintenance already carried out and the state of the critical components.

Diagnosis

Findings are ranked by risk: what compromises safety, what is costing production, what can wait for the next shutdown and what should be grouped so nobody climbs the same turbine twice.

Work plan

Scope turbine by turbine, means of access — ropes, crane, platform, drone —, spare parts, crew and weather window. On blades the window rules: wind to hang the ropes and temperature for the resin to cure.

Execution

To the OEM procedure, with health-and-safety and contractor documentation cleared before we enter, calibrated tools and a team leader on site. Every turbine is closed with its own work sheet.

Handover and data

Report per turbine with before-and-after photographs, punch list of whatever is still open, and the data kept so the next campaign can be compared with this one instead of starting from scratch.

01 · Maintenance · Preventive, predictive and corrective

Maintenance, retrofits and preservation with the availability target written into the contract

A preventive programme that merely follows the manual does not prevent downtime. We combine the OEM's scheduled service with predictive techniques and our own trend tracking so that gearbox, generator and auxiliary issues are found before they stop the turbine, and we back it with an on-call crew for contracted farms.

  • Preventive service to the OEM calendar, with its checklists and a digital record of every task.
  • Predictive: thermography, borescope inspection and oil analysis, with trend reports and early warnings per component.
  • Torque checks on blade, hub, tower and foundation bolting with calibrated tools, and generator alignment (Llanos del Viento, Polche Sur).
  • Retrofits: TN retrofits and anti-static retrofits across the fleet, turbine by turbine (Atacama, Mesamávida, Alena, Los Olmos, Polche Sur, Duna Huambos, Agua Clara and Guanillo).
  • Turbine preservation during storage or before commissioning, and turbine cabling (Atacama, Haru Oni, Alena, Llanos del Viento).
  • Corrective: 24/7 on-call crew for contracted farms, from electromechanical faults to yaw ring replacement (La Bouleste, Gamesa G5X, 2021).
  • Reporting: intervention reports with photographs and documentary traceability in your client portal, with the target availability agreed in the contract.

When a turbine stops, every hour counts

24/7 on-call crew for wind farms under contract

A fast, reliable corrective response is the difference between hours and weeks of downtime. We diagnose, repair and return the turbine to production with certified parts and full documentary traceability. When the fault involves a main component, we plan the exchange with a crane or, where the platform allows it, with up-tower and craneless systems, coordinating lifting means, access and the outage window.

On-call and corrective

Breakdown line and on-call crew with a fully equipped vehicle for contracted farms, with response times agreed in the contract. On international projects we agree the response time in the proposal.

Electromechanical and yaw

Converters, pitch, yaw, hydraulics, sensors and cabling. Yaw ring replacement carried out on Gamesa G5X (La Bouleste, 2021) and generator alignment on SGRE SG145 (Llanos del Viento) and at Polche Sur.

Main component exchange

Gearbox, generator, blade and main bearing exchange planned per intervention: component, lifting method (crane or up-tower) and lead time, with root cause analysis of the failure.

Task force: GWO-trained technicians ready to reinforce your team within days

A preventive campaign running late, a punch list to close before handover, a fleet-wide retrofit or availability slipping without enough hands. We put a complete crew to work inside your organisation, your ISP's or the OEM's, following your procedures and your schedule, as we have done at Cabo Leones (Chile) and Duna Huambos (Peru).

04 · Rope access · Cleaning, blade repair, fibre and painting

A full IRATA crew: repair, non-destructive testing and cleaning at height without a crane

A leading-edge defect, a crack in a blade, a stained tower or a hub that needs fibre work do not justify mobilising a crane. Our qualified rope-access technicians, GWO-trained, go up on ropes, do the job and come down: fewer hours of downtime and no heavy machinery on your site.

  • Blade repair in general: leading-edge protection (LEP), cracks, laminate, lightning receptors (LPS) and drainage, documented by category 1-5 (Llanos del Viento, Cabo Leones, La Estrella).
  • Nacelle and hub fibre repair, including hub fibre lowering with rope-suspended work (San Pedro, Gamesa G97).
  • Vertical cleaning of towers, blades and tower sections, on the ground or on ropes (Atacama, Renaico 2, Cabo Leones, Los Olmos, and tower cleaning across the Dominican Republic: Agua Clara, Guanillo, Larimar, Juancho, Los Cocos, Quilvio Cabrera, Guzmancitos).
  • Painting and logo installation on the tower at height (Atacama).
  • A full crew of IRATA technicians with GWO training: every rope team works under level-3 supervision, with a written rescue plan and equipment carrying its own inspection record. Blade structural repairs are signed off by technicians qualified in composite materials.
  • Non-destructive testing on the blade: ultrasonic testing and tap testing to map delaminations and bond-line disbonds before opening up the repair, and to verify it afterwards.

05 · Inspections · Port, factory and on site

Independent eyes on your components before they reach the site, and once they are up

Component inspection in factory and port, prototype follow-up, blade inspection by drone or conventional photography, and inspection of the emergency and rescue equipment your technicians rely on. Independent reports that you can put in front of the OEM.

Components in port and factory

Inspection of blades, tower sections and nacelles at the factory and on arrival at port, with a report on every unit (Nordex Delta 4000 at the Nordex and Martifer factories and at the ports of Santander and Lumbier, 2020).

Prototype quality control

Quality control and follow-up of new platforms during manufacturing and first installation: Gamesa G145 at the Tianjin factory (China, 2019) and G4X at Cabo Leones (Chile).

Blade inspection

By autonomous drone or with conventional photographic equipment, with damage classified by type, severity and size (Agua Clara and Guanillo, Dominican Republic; Sainte-Rose, Guadeloupe).

Emergency and rescue equipment

Inspection of descent and rescue kits and emergency equipment, plus certification of lifelines, anchor points and service lifts.

Thermography and borescope

Internal inspection of gearboxes and bearings with a borescope; thermography of cabinets, generator and connections as part of the predictive programme.

Final inspections

Final inspections and client punch lists before acceptance (Pampa Energía II, Argentina; Altamira, Campos Azules, Vientos de la Perla and Vientos de Miramar, Costa Rica).

Ageing fleets

Condition inspection of turbines beyond their design life: in Spain alone, 9.77 GW of wind capacity is already more than 20 years old (AEE).

06 · Lifelines, anchor points and service lifts

Certified lifelines and service lifts, so every climb is a safe one

A lifeline that has not been certified, an anchor point without a record or a service lift without its periodic check stops your technicians before they start. We certify lifelines and anchor points, install and certify tower service lifts and inspect descent and rescue equipment, on new sites and in operating fleets.

  • Lifeline and anchor point certification with a record per turbine (Haru Oni, Mesamávida, Alena, Llanos del Viento, Tchama, Cabo Leones, Calama, La Estrella, Los Olmos, Duna Huambos, Agua Clara and Guanillo).

07 · Drone inspection · Autonomous platform for towers and blades

All three blades covered in under 45 minutes of downtime, with results you can reproduce

Our autonomous drone platform flies the turbine on its own: LiDAR scanner, high-definition imagery and automatic upload to the cloud. It covers 100 % of each blade in under 45 minutes per turbine, and every campaign is flown the same way, so the results are comparable year on year. We are a drone operator and an official Yuneec distributor.

Installation and commissioning on any terrain

Turbine assembly, finishing works, tower cabling, service lift installation and certification and commissioning. Our team has been installing wind turbines since 2010, from the Moroccan desert to the Atacama, the Peruvian coast, Uruguay and Mexico, and in 2022-2023 it worked on the commissioning of the Haru Oni green-hydrogen plant in Chile.

  • Turbine assembly and finishing works on Nordex N149 (Mesamávida, Los Olmos), SGRE G145 (Tchama), Vestas V100/V110 (Uruguay, 2015) and earlier platforms since 2010.

Site managers and quality inspectors who represent your interests on site during construction, warranty and O&M: quality, installation, civil works, HSE, document control and construction contracts. Punch lists and turbine handover with records you can claim against.

End of warranty: claim before it is too late

The last months of the OEM warranty are your last chance to have defects paid for by whoever is responsible. We inspect, document and support your position with evidence: blades, drivetrain, electrical, hydraulics, structure and documentation, in a report you can put in front of the OEM. The same approach we apply to punch lists and turbine handover on new sites.

What asset managers and site managers ask us

How do you price a maintenance contract?
There are no published rates: every wind farm is different. We start with a free site visit and diagnosis; within 7-10 days you receive a condition report with priorities and risks and, with it, a tailored proposal per wind farm covering scope, crew, on-call cover and the availability target to be agreed in the contract. You decide whether we go ahead.
We already have a contract with the OEM. Can you still help?
Yes. We supervise the OEM during warranty and verify that what is invoiced is what gets done; we cover what its contract does not include (rope access, drone blade inspection, lifeline and lift certification, a task force or the end-of-warranty inspection); and when that contract ends we prepare the transition with the defects documented and claimed before closure.
Can we start with a few turbines?
Yes. We propose a 3-month pilot programme on a subset of turbines that you choose, so you can verify the response, the reporting and the results before extending it to the rest of the fleet.
Can you reinforce our own team?
That is what the task force is for: GWO-trained crews with a team leader, vehicles, calibrated tools and PPE, mobilised within days, integrated into your organisation, your ISP's or the OEM's for preventive campaigns, scheduled outages, punch lists, fleet-wide retrofits or availability recovery. What is your response time on a breakdown?
Wind farms under contract have a 24/7 on-call crew, with response times agreed in the contract according to the location of the site. On international projects we agree the response time in the proposal.
Which turbine platforms do you work on?
Nordex Delta 4000 (N149, N163), Siemens Gamesa (SG132, SG145, G132, G145, G97, G114, G5X, G9X), Goldwind (GW87, GW136), Vestas (V90, V100, V110, V112, V136), Senvion/Repower MM92, NEG Micon, Acciona AW3000, Envision EN110 and Alstom ECO 80, as well as the Haru Oni green-hydrogen plant in Chile. For a new platform we run a specific training period with the OEM's documentation before intervening.
Do you have to stop the turbine to inspect the blades by drone?
Yes. The turbine is stopped and locked so that the autonomous drone can cover 100 % of each blade. The stop lasts under 45 minutes per turbine, compared with the hours of downtime required by a rope or platform inspection, and the results are reproducible campaign after campaign.
Do you sell the drones or only provide the service?
Both. We are an official Yuneec distributor: we sell the platforms, cameras and inspection packs and we train your team so that you can bring the service in-house. Visit the drone shop (in Spanish) or contact us in English.
